Foley and Thurrott call Microsoft childish and insulting, say August Update is Update 2

-

After Microsoft's negation of a Windows 8.1 Update 2 yesterday, experts Paul Thurrott from Winsupersite and Mary Jo Foley from ZDNet are slapping the software giant in their Windows Weekly show for a assumed last minute name-change.

Both journalists are considered well-linked to insiders at Microsoft and had been the main sources writing about a so called Windows 8.1 Update 2. While the underlying reasons of Microsoft's blog-post remain unclear, Microsoft might have fired a bullet at both Thurrott and Foley. In their articles, both haven't been the biggest supporters of Microsoft's recent products and announcements which might have displeased decision-makers at Microsoft.

Microsofts post states that “… despite rumors and speculation, we are not planning to deliver a ‘Update 2.' “ which now enrages Thurrott who “has a bigger issue with that words”, calling Microsoft's behaviour “incredibly insulting”. According to Thurrott, Microsofts last-minute statements were“clearly directed at Mary Jo and myself” which means he feels questioned in his journalistic integrity.

He goes on saying that “the people who wrote that post know that this is Update 2, they know it is called Update 2 internally” and that they had “stripped features from the Update” which turned it into a smaller August Update in the end.

You can make up your own mind on this. While Thurrott could be right in his accusations, maybe this time he and Foley just didn't have the best sources and try to protect their influence and reputation.

Commenter  J Rolf puts it that way below the video saying “Give me a break Paul… MS does not know your alive… put the ego away… Oh also get over yourself…  :(“
